This page will be exploring the themes that are in Shakespeare's plays and works.
Check out this video to learn the definition of themes and the relevance of the themes in Shakespeare's plays today. --->
Themes in a Midsummer's Night Dream:
Magic:
Shakespeare uses the theme of magic to demonstrate the almost supernatural and fantastical power of love. This theme is still relevant today as people still imagine magical and wonderful things in the world, just like they did in Shakespearian times. eg. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wizard of Oz etc.
Dream:
As suggested in the name of this play, Shakespeare uses dreams as a theme. He uses the theme dreams to represent magical and bizarre mishaps that can happen in the forest. This theme is also relevant today because the almost magic like experience of dreams still amazes people today. Dreams can be found in our modern literature and world today, eg. Alice in Wonderland, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, The Matrix, etc.
